ChatGPT is online on WhatsApp!

OpenAI just made ChatGPT accessible via a WhatsApp account. You can chat with the LLM.

It doesn't generate images (as obviously 4-Turbo was never a image generation model not even supported tool calling in the chat interface). However it can read and detect the contents of the images, documents you give it.

It also cannot execute code as a python analysis tool.

Its not the best model to make people use ChatGPT on WhatsApp but a good way to expose the product in my opinion, the people who are not willing to use ChatGPT on web interface or download the app, they would be interacting with it to get the feel. Which is a master stroke from OpenAI.

From the security perspective, the integration is also ticking the box, as it cannot access other chats and your personal information. However, I suspect it might access your phone number, because they mentioned there is a limit to the conversation you can have. There is a limit of 30 minutes of processing time (the time it takes for the ChatGPT to respond to your message) per month. If that is the case, then how are they tracking it? There must be some way to get the user information, and phone number makes the most possible way to get the per user usage quota. Anyways, its OpenAI never really open about what it does behind the scenes, but whatever they are doing, it is revolutionary in some sense. We can debate about that for sure, but we can also appreciate the effort they are putting in to getting LLMs accessible to everyone without limiting the user.

For your information, you can head on to chatgpt.com and chat straight away, it also will use the internet search tool if it detects it needs to (or asked to). The chat is not saved of course, but you are free to try and do any number of messages without logging in. That's power. There's some openess in them, I am not entirely anti-OpenAI.

But in terms of adoption rate, ChatGPT took the world by storm in December 2022, in April 2025? Not likely since we have a lot of options now, but in terms of being the first in every thing, it is consistent.

Anyways, hope people realize how LLMs and AI is everywhere and we are in a AI revolution.
